Connection

We know what disconnection looks like. How do we get back to connection?

One glance at the day’s headlines makes it clear: we’re living through the consequences of a disconnection crisis. America’s long-valued identity of ‘rugged individualism’ has proven to be not just toxic but dangerous.

But, there is good news on the horizon. For youth, the present era is a cautionary tale in the dangers of putting the individual first. There is strong evidence that they will drive the return to connection and community.

Humans are inherently social with two, basic needs: identity and belonging. The future of youth culture will be rooted in positive ways to meet these needs: emphasis on building community, breaking down barriers to connection and an unbreakable knowledge that the whole is always greater than the sum of its parts.

The next decade will be about recognizing our shared humanity as we enter a new era of connection.
